Comfrey High School
Concert Band Grading Policy
2004-2005

Band is a class based on participation and teamwork. The band is not made up of one player, or one section. Each section must be accountable to themselves and to the band to fulfill their required parts. This is the only way to be a successful "team." The concert band has a very positive and strong feel this year. There are many fine players in this group who understand the importance of personal musicianship as it helps make the group stronger. Your grade will be based on your personal growth, the growth of the band, and most importantly the effort you put into both. The following are an approximate list of things you will be graded on during the year.

Rehearsals 10 points per day based on participation, cooperation, and attitude.
(Exceptional days by the group will be rewarded with extra points)

Lessons 30 points per lesson. These lessons are where you will learn the most how to be a stronger, better musician.

Pep Band 40 points for each performance. Appearance, attitude, participation, and timeliness will be graded.

Performances approximate 50 points. Points will vary dependent on the performance. These include things that are not pep band or band concerts.

Concerts approximate 200 points. This will depend on the type of concert. This includes setting up, tearing down, being on time, effort, attitude, preparation, and other things. Specific grading sheets will be given for each concert.

Extra Credit unspecified. This will be determined by what the event is. Some examples would be playing the national anthem for sporting events, taps at funerals, in church, at community events or anything outside the bounds of school events. A sheet must be filled out about what the activity was and a witness must sign.
