Stock Market Awards Ceremony & Luncheon
On Friday, January 13, two of Comfrey's four teams were recognized at the
Stock Market Awards Ceremony & Luncheon held at the Carlson School of
Management on the U of M Campus.
The keynote speaker was David Runkle who is a Financial Analyst for Piper
Jaffray. He gave some insights as to how to research a company. He
concluded his speech stating that the most valuable investment is education
in yourself.
After enjoying a very elegant pizza luncheon, the teams were awarded the
first and second place plaques and t-shirts for the Take Stock in Minnesota
High School Division.

Comfrey Tops the State in the Stock Market Game
Comfrey School and BestPrep have joined forces to enhance the economic education of local students through participation in The Stock Market Game Program. The Stock Market Game is an interactive educational tool that is used to teach about investment.
Comfrey business teacher Donna Krueger has been working with a carefully designed curriculum for student teams that compete in grades 9-12. In the portfolio equity competition, teams invest a hypothetical $100,000 in common stocks of Minnesota based companies over fourteen weeks. Each team receives portfolio updates on their current holding, brokerage fees, interest, and team rankings.
On December 19 the final ranking was posted. Comfrey Public School had four teams participating. The final rankings found Comfrey taking the top four places. The top two teams will be recognized at the awards ceremony taking place at the Carlson School of Management on the University of Minnesota Campus in Minneapolis on Friday, January 13, 2006.
Krueger is proud of all the students in the Economics class this year. They did a GREAT job! Their achievement show that they learned that the stock market is risky so you need to know how much you are willing to risk, do your research before investing, diversify and most of all hope you are lucky!
